Joint Pain
Red Light Therapy can be used as an Effective Treatment for Arthritis

Light Therapy for Arthritis
The most important factor you must consider when choosing a light therapy for arthritis, is that it must be capable of providing relief against arthritis pains within the shortest period of time. The second most important factor is that it must not increase the sensitivity of your skin to the device, then it must come with all necessary safety features to protect your body against accidents, which means, there must be an automatic shutdown or regulator on the device to put off the power when the device is not in use. The product must also have a suitable ergonomic design for proper handling, and must be light enough for movement in all directions.
What are the benefits of Light therapy for arthritis?
Arthritis has been regarded as the main leading cause of disability all around the world, and the reason for this is the characteristic recurrent pain due to inflammation in one or more joints within the body.
Light therapy for arthritis works by focusing red and Infra-red light to the affected area, and the cells and tissues within such area absorb the light, and the photons from the light will strike the damaged tissues that trigger arthritis pains, alongside the blood, skin, and bones, thus speeding up their healing. LED technologies for treating arthritis are not only effective, at Red Light Wellbeing they are also affordable, and natural. They are not invasive, unlike surgeries, injections, peels and lasers. The light wavelength of our products will penetrate effectively into the skin to relieve aching joints, sores, muscle spasms, and stiffness associated with arthritic developments.
Why make use of LEDs for arthritis?
LEDs such as Light therapy for arthritis have numerous edges over other options such as Lasers for some reasons. While Lasers make use of focused beams to produce a bandwidth of radiation, Light therapy makes use of light waves that move progressively through electro-magnetic radiant energy with different wavelengths to reach a larger surface area of the body, therefore LEDs provide a much more effective treatment on a larger body surface area. The duty cycle of a typical Light therapy is 2.5 million times longer than that of laser, whereas, Laser treatments are much more expensive to use.
Hair Growth
Red Light Therapy can help prevent your hair from falling and regrow new, thicker hair?

Light Therapy for Hair Loss
The hair growth cycle consists of 3 phases:
- Growth (anagen phase)
- Resting (telogen phase)
- Shedding (catagen phase)
Red light therapy was found to increase blood flow (microcirculation) in the scalp and stimulate metabolism in catagen or telogen follicles.
The result?
Accelerated production of anagen hair – new hair (stimulation of epidermal stem cells in the hair follicle bulge and shifting the follicles into anagen phase).
The most commonly used wavelengths for treating hair loss with red light therapy are in the range of 630 to 670 nanometers (nm). Visible red light is capable of being absorbed by the molecules of the hair follicle and can stimulate the growth or re-growth of the hair following a natural biological reaction. The light must be absorbed for this reaction to occur.
From a more technical standpoint, the reason that red light is absorbed is because of a substance called cytochrome c, which is an intracellular enzyme. That enzyme can absorb the light within that range and is also responsible for stimulating the hair follicle by sending it certain signals. Those signals promote gene activity and lower apoptosis (cell death regulated by the genes), as well as other reactions. This has been known since 1967 when it was accidentally discovered by a Hungarian scientist who noticed that exposed, shaved mice experience faster hair re-growth.
While red light therapy is not a universal solution to hair loss – meaning that it won't work in 100% of the cases – other options such as prescription drugs are not a universally working solution either. Red light therapy is thus a non-invasive therapy that you could try before attempting to fix hair loss with more invasive options.
Cognition
Red Light Therapy can be used to improve Cognitive Functionality

Light Therapy for Cognition
It was discovered that near-infrared wavelengths (800–900 nm) and red (600 nm) light-emitting diodes (LED) are able to penetrate through the scalp and skull and have the potential to improve the subnormal cellular activity of compromised brain tissue. Different experimental and clinical studies have been performed to test LED therapy for traumatic brain injury (TBI) with promising results. Externally placed LEDs to deliver red and near-infrared (NIR) light energy has been shown in cell-based studies to improve cellular metabolism and to produce beneficial physiological effects. In acute stroke in humans, for example, transcranial NIR light therapy applied less than 24 hours post-stroke was associated with improved outcomes.
Red light therapy has been studied in a wide variety of conditions including stroke, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, depression, and cognitive enhancement in healthy subjects. In a DB-RCT of 11 dementia patients, red and near-infrared light therapy improved memory, attention, and executive function. Research has also shown that transcranial near-infrared stimulation has been found to increase neurocognitive function in young healthy adults, finding that it improved sustained attention and short-term memory retrieval in young adults, and improved memory in older adults with significant memory impairment at risk for cognitive decline.
Muscle recovery
Red light Therapy has an effect on the cells that control rejuvenation and production.

Light Therapy for Muscle Recovery
The natural healing mechanisms stimulated by light therapy can help athletes heal more quickly following injury while also preventing muscle fatigue and soreness that can interfere with both training and competitive performance.

Researchers have found that both red and infrared light can also help repair muscle tissue in athletes, helping them train and build muscle tissue more efficiently and compete more effectively. Light therapy has the additional benefit of being effective without the use of potentially harmful drugs. A systematic review of the research concludes that near-infrared and red light therapy has proven highly effective in treating tendon disorders in all 12 studies conducted.
How does it work?
Muscle tissue, which has high energy demands, mitochondria abound. In fact, it’s those high levels of mitochondria inside the muscle tissue that makes red and NIR light therapy so effective in promoting muscle health.
Red and Near Infrared Light Prevent Muscle Fatigue
One of the primary ways light therapy helps promote better muscle health and function is by preventing or limiting muscle fatigue, which naturally occurs as a result of physical activity – especially strenuous exercise and training. In fact, research shows red and infrared light therapy is effective in preventing muscle fatigue and enhancing skeletal muscle performance.
So how does light therapy reduce muscle fatigue and repair cells? At the most basic level, red and NIR light therapy improve the mitochondria respiration cycle and help mitochondria produce energy more efficiently – and that means muscles are less likely to suffer from fatigue. That’s it in a nutshell, but of course, the physiologic mechanisms behind all these benefits is a lot more complex. For instance, application of red and near infrared light helps promote production of antioxidants which play a central role in reducing oxidative stress associated with muscle fatigue. And they also increase the production of heat proteins – special proteins that help protect cells from stress and early cell death (apoptosis).
Light Therapy Enhances Muscle Growth
Muscle function and repair are important for improving strength and endurance and reducing fatigue and soreness following workouts and physical activity. But the benefits of red and NIR light therapy don’t stop there. Research shows application of light therapy also promotes the growth of healthy muscle tissue, or muscle hypertrophy, naturally increasing muscle size and bulk – as well as strength.
Skin Health
Red Light Therapy can help reduce skin issues, like stretch marks and wrinkles.

Light Therapy for Skin Health
It has long been shown that red light, particularly 620nm and 680nm, when applied to wounds and cuts, speeds up healing and reduces the likelihood of a scar. Wrinkles and aged skin are formed slower than scar tissue, but by the same essential process – an overproduction of the collagen framework and so a lack of metabolically active cells.
Red light therapy works by flooding the skin cells with ATP (energy), leading to cell proliferation, better survival, regeneration and tissue repair.
- Red light photodissociates nitric oxide from mitochondria which helps improve blood flow to the area and provide the resources (glucose, etc.) for healthy repair.
- Red light reduces inflammation in the area it is applied. Inflammation being a significant inhibitor of healthy repair.
- Red light improves surface tension in cells and helps to prevent mitochondrial enzymes from leaking out into the cytoplasm, thereby protecting the cell’s energy metabolism.

Weight Loss
Red light therapy can be used to increase metabolism which creates energy

Light Therapy for Weight Loss
Red light therapy works on a very simple mechanism which we will explain under two main points namely, bioenergetics and blood flow.
Bioenergetics – Red light therapy simply stimulates the mitochondria in the fat cell. Mitochondria, also known as the powerhouse of the cell, when stimulated it increases the glucose oxidation. This happens due to the fact that red light’s wavelength is between 600nm and 1000nm which stimulate a key copper enzyme in our cells.
Consequently, more cellular energy is produced, and more glucose is burnt efficiently. This leads to less stress and healthier cells. The increase in metabolic rate ultimately leads to fat loss.
